The ROTARY CLUB OF MUMBAI LAKERS

Rotary Mumbai Lakers Powai Run & Carnival

It’s held on 26th June 2022

We all know that running is good for you, both physically and mentally, and that marathons, fun runs, and everything in between, raise substantial amounts of money for amazing causes worldwide. Brookfield Properties Powai Run (Monsoon Edition) , organized by Rotary Club of Mumbai Lakers is one run that combines all the above elements. It is the flagship fundraiser project for Rotary Club of Mumbai Lakers. It raises awareness, brings people together and inspires thousands across the city of Mumbai to slip into their running shoes, often for the first time, all whilst doing good things for others.

This year we had physical run for 4km - Biggest Run in 2022 in city of Mumbai !! 10km and 21 km run were conducted in a Virtual avatar where anyone, anywhere in the world could participate.

The Run has a new theme every year and this years was #BreakThePlasticHabit. The theme is something in which our Title Sponsors, Brookfield Properties believes very strongly in and has joined hands with RCML in helping Powai break this habit. The team worked on hiring RECIRCLE, an agency that ensured that the event was a ZERO WASTE EVENT and the first of its kind in Powai.

The Innovation Run was introduced for the first time at the Powai Run. It was an initiative of RCML, Brookfield Properties and IIT E-cell wherein CXOs from across Mumbai took park In a 4km walk / run along with IIT students. It’s was a novel way of bringing the leaders of today with the leaders of tomorrow under one roof.

When we raise money for charity, people like to know where the money raised for charity goes, and the real effect and legacy that money has. Powai Run connects people directly to the causes they are fundraising for and helps you see first hand the impact your involvement has. And then there’s that element of challenge, getting people to do something that they previously thought impossible. When you Run at Powai Run, you can be sure that 100% of the nett funds raised is going for charities supporting causes like Little Heart surgeries, Cancer detection and treatment, girl child education, and various other projects such as making potable water accessible , supporting health and hygiene especially of women and children in rural areas, giving counseling to battered women in the community, conducting medical camps, planting trees to make the planet greener and many more. All these projects are updated on our social media handles, website and periodically circulated in the community newspaper Planet Powai.

The greatest difference we make is not the fundraising or the work we do throughout the week. It’s the lasting impact it has on the communities. It is the long term memories you create, especially at the post run Carnival held on the Main Street. People of all ages from 3 to 80 come and participate in this Gala event celebrating with food, Music, dancing, games and general Bon homie prevails. All these goings-on are part of what makes Powai a great place to live. Besides being fun, RCML’s well-managed carnival offers economic and social benefits to new businesses with in the community. It instills a sense of community pride.

There’s also the energy and affirmation that comes from it. One lady who never used to be a runner, but now takes her kids running every weekend and gets her kids involved in charitable giving as a family. She’s now, as a mum, influencing her children to think about the world differently, and that’s why we do what we do.

The best thing about being involved with Powai Run is the opportunity to help build a community, foster a sense of pride within a community, and engage as a community for the upliftment of underprivileged. RCML also involved it’s Youth Clubs - Interact Club of Mumbai Lakers, Rotaract Club of Sinhgad College, Rotaract Club of Chandrabhan Sharma College in the Registration process and Bib distribution.

We would like to thank all our sponsors / partner and participants of the run for making this event such a resounding success. Thank you Brookfield Propeties for believing in us and becoming our Title Sponsors, Hafele India for magnanimously donating to our Little Hearts Project, DNA 360 for being our fitness partners, Truefitt & Hill for being our Grooming Partners, Kotak Bank for being our Banking partners, Hiranandani Hospital for being our Medical partners, Gioseppo being a donor, ActHive for being our Corporate Registration Partner and Powai Live for being our Web Channel Partner. In the end all we can say is - The experience of running for a cause bigger than yourselves makes your realize that when it comes to the Lakers, all you need to do is RUN MILES, TO SPREAD SMILES.
