Its time to welcome the elephant god!!! But these days this festival is raising the burning issue of Environmental Pollution.Traditionally, these idols were made up of clay . Over the years, plaster of paris (POP), which is lighter and cheaper, has become the favoured material to mould these idols. POP and the dyes used to colour these idols contains very hazardous chemicals. The most serious impact of the Ganesh festival on environment is due to the immersion of idols. So ROTARY club of Mumbai lakers adopted, going green the new mantra ,to reduce the environmental damage and to Celebrate this pompously Eco-friendly Ganesh Festival grandly without harming environment by selling environmentally safe idols and encourage others also to use the same mainly to create awareness among the people and to donate all the proceeds to various NGO’s. We also conducted pottery workshops for all children .
