2017-2018

Patients who are not able to meet their medical expenses, we support them. 1 patient a month which is referred by a Laker

Children with congenital heart conditions are operated upon and given a New lease of life. The surgeries are conducted at Kokilaben Ambani Hospital. As of today we have faciliated more than 100+ surgeries

We support MRI and Dexa scans of Thalassemia major children who go through blood transfusion through the year. We are also supporting these children for HLA typing so that they can go for a bone marrow transplant on a matching found.

For MRI + DEXA
MRI + DEXA is one of the areas which you would be supporting. Jankharia Imaging, the most reputed Imaging Centre in the country and most reliable for T2* MRI, will be conducting the tests. The MOU signed between Jankharia Imaging and Think Foundation establishes the special rate given to us for the tests. The amount committed by you for these investigations is Rs. 6. lakhs, which translates to Rs. 50,000 per month on an average. This again will amount to 8-9 patients per month. Doctor’s prescription may specify both tests or one of the two.

Depending on the prescription given by doctors we will book appointments with Jankharia Imaging for every patient. The patient will be handed over a serial-numbered Credit Note, which will entitle him to the service free of cost. Jankharia will send a consolidated monthly Invoice giving reference to all the credit notes issued by us. We will be required to settle the same within a week.

For HLA-Typing
HLA-Typing is a one-time exercise which we will carry out for Thalassaemia patients and their siblings. This may be carried out for individual patient + siblings or a group of patients + siblings. The buccal samples of patients + siblings will be couriered to Histogenetics, with whom we have an MOU for a special rate.  Histogenetics is a global leader in HLA-Typing, and Chennai is the base for their operations in India. The number of samples sent to Histogenetics may vary from month to month, and will depend on identifying patients + siblings. Histogenetics, after analyzing the samples, will send Individual Reports, and then raise an Invoice on Think Foundation.

Recommended Action
To enable us to make prompt payments to Jankharia Imaging, we would suggest the following arrangements :
a. An advance of Rs. 1.50 lakhs for MRI+DEXA to be made to us. We will issue our 80-G Receipt for the same.
b. On utilization of the above amount (which is likely to be at the end of the quarter), we will submit a report to you which will carry a summary of the invoices as well as a list of beneficiaries along with outcome of the tests.
c. A release of Rs. 1.50 lakhs to be made to us after receipt of the utilization report. Steps (b) and (c) will follow till complete utilization of your support.

The above mentioned steps to be followed separately in the case of Histogenetics for HLA-Typing as well.

In other words, we will maintain 2 separate systems – one for MRI+ DEXA and a second for HLA-Typing. The support provided by you for each of the heads will be used only for that specific purpose.

At the end of the year we will submit a consolidated utilization statement and list of patients.

Rotary Club of Mumbai lakers got 14 forms signed up at Kanjurmarg Railway Station also successfully managed to spread awareness about the same to the locals there…….

We all want to be remembered for who we are, what we’ve accomplished and the difference we’ve made.

One way to make a difference is by donating organs.Organ donation is a wonderful legacy we can leave behind. Donating our organs after we are gone is the closest we can come to giving life to another individual. It is possible for a single donor to donate organs and tissues that may help as many as 50 recipients. The field of organ transplantation is one of the miracles of modern medicine, but its power to save lives depends directly on the availability of organs. Ironically, the increasing success rate of organ transplant procedures is one reason that organ transplant waiting lists have risen so dramatically. However raising awareness about organ donation is a slow process, and the need for more organs is immediate.

RI District 3141 has taken up “Organ donation awareness Drive” as a major drive this year.

Rotary club of Mumbai Lakers did awareness camp on Sunday 20th, 9.30-11.00am at Kanjurmarg station. We are thankful to staff of Kanjurmarg station and local commuters who actively supported and participated into this awareness drive.

We request Local communities to step forward in much larger numbers for this noble cause.

Information coming up shortly

Pratish’s parents sent us a plea. “We want you to HEAR”

Pratish Waghwankar is a 4 years 7 months old boy born with a severe to profound hearing loss.

When he was about 2 years old, the parents realised that he wasn’t talking and hence visited multiple doctors. When the child was about 4 years old he underwent a detailed hearing evaluation and was found to have complete hearing loss in both the ears. He obtained no benefit with hearing aids and has been advised to undergo a Cochlear Implant surgery.

Pratish’s father is the sole earning member in the family, who works as a peon in a college. His mother is a housewife. They also have an older 11 year old son (currently in 7th grade), who has been recently diagnosed with tuberculosis of the brain and is under treatment.  They are also currently paying off their monthly house loan installments. Pratish’s grandmother who resides in their native village is also dependent on them.

The Cost of the cochlear implant is Rs 6,09,000/- and the surgical and hospitalization cost is Rs 1,08,000/- … the Total expense coming to Rs 7,17,000/-

Post cochlear implant surgery, children need therapy and programming of the device- the cost of which is a further total Rs. 1,64,000/- for a period of 3 years. Pratish needs to undergo the cochlear implant surgery as soon as possible, so that he can obtain maximum benefit out of the implant to help him hear, to develop speech and language, and thus to communicate with others. Without the cochlear implant, he will never be able to hear or speak and will be restricted to a world of silence.

Please help Pratish enter into a world of sound, and live a life like any other normal child.
